News agency WAM describes an “interim analysis” of Sinoform’s China National Biotech Group (CNPG). More than 10 million Gulf countries began phase 3 human testing of the vaccine in July, approving emergency use for health workers in September. “Signing of this vaccine is a significant confidence vote by the health authorities of the United Arab Emirates on the safety and efficacy of this vaccine by Sinoform CNPG,” the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday, without elaborating on what “registration” means. The vaccine was developed by CNPG’s Beijing Institute of Biological Production. The ministry said the Phase 3 trials would include 31,000 volunteers from 125 national races, including diverse and large foreigners from the United Arab Emirates – about 90% of the country’s total population – who benefit from carrying out human testing. The announcement was thin on details; It did not describe the parameters of the tests, such as how many patients were vaccinated against the placebo, and did not mention any side effects experienced by the patients. After quoting an 86% efficacy statistic, the ministry said: “The analysis also shows that the vaccine has a 99 percent seroconversion rate of neutralizing antibody and is 100 percent effective in preventing mild and severe cases of the disease.” It added that “the analysis showed no serious security concerns”. It is not clear how the 86% performance figure was calculated. CNBC has approached Sinopharma for feedback. .
