President Luis Abinader called on the judiciary to more severely crack down on clandestine manufacturers and marketers of adulterated drinks, which in recent weeks have claimed the lives of more than 20 people.
The president said there is a lot of recidivism of people who have been subjected to this crime and after the trial they are acquitted and return to the same practice.
“We believe that we should act more severely with them,” Abinader emphasized.
Abinader referred to the issue when answering questions from journalists covering the National Palace fountain.
“It is a complaint from the police and military bodies, that the people who are subdued, that justice also act, because there is a lot of recidivism in these cases,” he said.
For his part, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Víctor (Ito) Bisonó, reported that yesterday morning they confiscated more than eight thousand 866 bottles, of 400 milligrams, of clerén in the municipality of Cabral, Barahona.
