More people are dying than expected from COVID-19 in Florida. In the fall, new corona virus cases began to re-emerge in the state. In mid-October, increasing cases led to more people in Florida hospitals. “If we don’t see a change in the path, we could see a very difficult time,” Dr. Andrew Myers, Covit-19 maintenance head at Tampa General Hospital, told the Times a month ago. Forty-eight of the state’s 67 districts now report more people being hospitalized than they were a month ago. In all, forty-two people are reported dead. Overall, Florida has been testing significantly more than it did in the summer, and the total number of positive cases has increased more than the number of people in the hospital. This is good news – it means catching symptoms or mild ones without letting others inadvertently hurt you. As test capacity expands, some test sites are reaching their limits and new locations are opening up, Tampa Bay officials said. This massive increase in test efficiency will not stop the steady rise of cases. But even with the increased trial, overall, the steady rise in cases over two months is a clear warning.
