Police say one person has died and another was slightly injured in a shooting at a mall in northern Wisconsin
GRAND CHUTE, Washington – A suspect left one person dead and one slightly injured Sunday before fleeing a shooting scene at a mall in northern Wisconsin, police said.
Police were called to the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, a suburb of Appleton, around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The unidentified shooter remained Sunday night, authorities said.
Grand Chute police officer Travis Waas did not identify any of the victims.
Wass said the shooter left the mall before officers arrived. Police said he was interviewing witnesses and following directions. No reason was published immediately.
Photos of the scene showed agents, some with tactical equipment, staged outside the mall and what looked like customers were coming out with their hands in the air.
Haylie Mirr, who works at a mall restaurant called Box Lunch, said she knew nothing about the shooting, but said, “People have just started running. We just closed the doors and we had four customers in the store, we took them to our back room. “
They were still waiting for the clearing almost three hours later.
It was the second recent shoot in Wisconsin. In November, eight people were injured in a shooting after a clash at a Wauwatosa mall on the outskirts of Milwaukee. A 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged.
Grand Chute is a city of about 22,000 on the outskirts of Appeton, about 160.93 miles north of Milwaukee.
