About one in six American adults has been completely vaccinated against coronavirus, according to new data released Saturday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The CDC vaccine tracker, which was updated Saturday afternoon, shows that 16.7 percent of the adult population has been completely vaccinated. More than 40 percent of adults age 65 and older are also fully vaccinated.
In total, more than 121 million doses have been administered and nearly 43 million adults have been inoculated.
Three different coronavirus vaccines have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. The Pfizer and Moderna shots require two doses to achieve full effectiveness, while the Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires one inoculation.
More than 21 million fully vaccinated adults received the Pfizer vaccine, followed by more than 19.7 million who received the Modern vaccine and 2.15 million received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was recently released.
The Biden administration has already surpassed the goal of administering 100 mill shots in its first 100 days as it increases its distribution efforts, but public health experts urge people to continue to take precautions such as carrying a mask and distance themselves socially to prevent further spread of the virus.
But despite increased vaccine availability, only half of health care workers have been stung, according to a recent survey by the Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation. The vast majority of vaccinated health workers have not decided whether or not to get it and have expressed concern about the side effects and novelty of the vaccine.
A sizable group of Americans across the country have also expressed similar concerns and hesitations around the shooting.

CDC news comes on the same day that the UK announced that half of its adult population has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The number represents a milestone in a country that has been forced to close after the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant.
