111 Afghan girls from the school flee Kabul safely

A group of 111 Afghan girls from the school in Kabul were able to fly on Saturday night with a C-17 in an attempt to flee the Taliban, sources in Doha, Qatar have confirmed to CBS News.

The girls attended a special leadership school in Kabul sponsored by the Qatar government.

According to CBS News sources, the students have successfully arrived at Al Udeid air base in Doha, Qatar, and have been prosecuted.

The State Department says they cannot comment on specific groups of evacuees, but say “we are working 24 hours a day to maximize evacuations.”

President Biden said on Sunday that 11,000 people had been evacuated from Kabul this weekend. Biden said the evacuation would be “hard and painful,” no matter what happened, and mentioned “pain, loss, and heartbreaking images.”

Thousands of Americans and Afghans continue to be evacuated to Kabul as the Taliban have taken control of the country. The United States has maintained control of Kabul Airport, where distressing scenes showed a large number of people desperate to gain access to military planes leaving the country, while the U.S. embassy in the capital warned Americans on Saturday not to travel to the airport and avoid the gates of the airport due to ongoing security threats.
