NEW YORK (CBS New York) – A social media challenge may be why a 12-year-old boy from Queens drove his parents’ luxury SUV 100 miles for a joy ride on Monday. Lisa Rosner of CBS2 reported that the boy and his 7-year-old cousin, who were in the passenger seat, returned home tonight after police in New Jersey and New York spent the day tracking them down. Joyride lasted five hours, and the boy, behind the wheel of a white Range Rover, drove from his home on 115th Street in South Ozone Park almost to the Delaware border, police said. Police were alerted at 9 a.m. and surveillance video showed relatives leaving the vehicle. E-pass and license plate readers observed Verassano crossing the bridge and entering New Jersey at 11 a.m. CBS2’s Natalie Dudridge says police have eased efforts to protect children. Check out Natalie Dudridge’s report: At 2:15 p.m., the NYPD reports that the boy tried to use his father’s credit card to buy cookies at a stop near the New Jersey-Delaware border. The children were able to avoid getting into an accident and they were taken into custody shortly after. On Monday night they were brought to the 106th place in the NYPD. Outside, the girl said: “Yes, it was good. I like to drive. “Did he drive well?” An officer asked. “Yes,” she replied. “Did you have a good time?” The officer asked. “Yes,” she said. The children were released to their family and taken home. “The kids are fine. They’re fine,” said the boy’s uncle, Joe Gangaram. Everyone is fine. Rosner asked how the boy learned to drive, but Kangar did not respond. From CBS New York More: Neighbors were unbelievable and said they had never seen the boy driving and that he was routinely supervised. “She is OK. I have seen him. He is sitting at home with his family, ”said Mohammad Irfan. “I’m so glad he came back.” “First, it’s very brave to get behind a car at 12 o’clock.
