God, New Year’s Eve is stressful, right? You spend most of December worrying about whether you will have interesting plans or not, and you do it for so long without getting anything done, or do he receives the invitation of your dreams and inevitably does not fulfill your fantasy. If you’ve found yourself in similar situations or are just looking for something a little unexpected, here are some ideas for making New Year’s Eve. Choose one and stop worrying now.
1. Party
Well, this is the obvious choice and probably the most popular. You could organize a party of your own or go for a drink at a bar and have everyone there until midnight. You could also go to Times Square, but the weather is often miserable and there are no public restrooms, so I can’t say I understand you if that interests you. I find it hard to “let go” on New Year’s Eve, because there are so many expectations: no one will rush to me seconds before midnight while glow falls in slow motion, so what’s the point? – But maybe you’re more carefree and better socializing, in which case it’s a good night to do so.
2. Set up your own personal yoga studio.
A home yoga session is a wonderful activity for any evening and particularly enjoyable for the night just before a new year begins. Light some candles, put on some good music, dim the lights and have a luxurious stretch.
3. Send a compliment without questions.
This is courtesy of our partner Edith Zimmerman, who has great things to say about sending compliments as an easy and reliable mood enhancer. Maybe wanting to feel better about yourself isn’t the purest motivation to say something kind to another person, but also, what does intention matter if the outcome is so positive? Use the energy of the end of the year to think of something nice that you’ve thought about for a long time (but never said) about someone you care about and explain it to them. It will make them night.
4. Cook something elaborate.
If you’re staying on New Year’s Eve but want to do something different, it’s a good time to try this semi-complicated recipe that you added to favorites months ago but never found any occasion. A co-worker recommended lobsters, but I personally would prefer a layered, elegant cake. Another good option is bread, which is easier to make yourself than you might think.
5. Throw / burn something important.
Okay, obviously always keep fire safety in mind, but if there’s something you’ve been hanging on for too long (I’m thinking mostly of memories: pictures, notes, striped t-shirts, etc.), new The Night New Year’s Eve is a symbolically ideal time to get rid of it. That I could it means burning it (probably only if it’s paper and it’s small !!), but it could also mean taking it to the bin at midnight and saying a little spell or something. I think it can look very nice.
6. Go for a run (or walk) at midnight.
I’m not saying I would ever do that, but if you like running (and the runner is tall) jogging or walking near midnight on New Year’s Eve (if you can do it safely!) Is a good way to absorb some of the festive atmosphere of the night without having to really get involved. You you might see some fireworks and some drunken partygoers, and even if you’re not partying, it’s nice to see other people having fun while you have yours. It would also be a good excuse to buy some new sneakers for the new year.
7. Teach your dog a new trick.
Teaching your dog a new trick is fun and rewarding, and if you do it before midnight, it will provide you with something extra to say you’ve achieved the year before. “I meditated almost every day, I ate 100 oysters, I taught my dog a trick …”
8. Clean your apartment.
“Clean my apartment ?? The number 1 party night of the year ?! ”You are thinking, upset. Well. If you want to party, it was option no. 1 of this list. And, anyway, cleaning your apartment is not boring if you consider it symbolic … Get rid of your old mess, enter a fresh new year, open and alive! Also, will your apartment be clean when you wake up in the morning and not be good? And funny?
9. Set up a breakfast stew.
Why not spend the night preparing a delicious breakfast stew for the morning? Start your new year with yesterday’s work. If you don’t like the breakfast stew (which doesn’t need to have an explicit breakfast theme; it could be any stew you eat in the morning, open your mind), how about you make some homemade cinnamon rolls and let them rise? in the fridge overnight? Oh yeah, now we’re talking.
10. Get dressed and stay home.
Oh God, isn’t it so nice to look luxurious to that other person in the world you really like, without ever having to talk or see anyone else? It’s so romantic. Even if the other person is a dog, a cat or a rabbit. Why not dress up, “fix your beautiful hair,” as Bruce Springsteen would say, and stay home with your loved one or friend of a similar style? And since you avoid crowds, why not try some new makeup and hair ideas?
11. Having sex.
I don’t need to convince you!
12. Have your partner or friend tell you 12 things they learned about you that year.
This is fun because it is both a sweet game and a bad joke. Of course, the other person will play, because he loves you, but, my God, 12 things? “One for each month of the year!” you will say. “I mean … I get it,” they’ll say, “it’s just a lot of things.” And they are right, it is so. (You can prepare your own list in advance.)
13. Go to bed when you are tired.
There are many parties I have regretted going to, but I have never regretted going to bed when I get tired, either at 8:45 or 11:15 or 12:04. All in all, New Year’s Eve is a night like any other. There will be many other occasions to celebrate that make you more personal. There would be (arguing) no better feeling than giving your body what it really wants, and sometimes that’s sleeping.
