Brothers Ishaan Thakur, 14, and Aanya Thakur, 9, spent the summer creating a lucrative business in the digital currency mine.
The Thakur brothers earn more than $ 30,000 a month by mining 3 digital currencies: Bitcoin, the largest digital currency by market value; Ether, the second most valuable; and Ravencoin, an alternative type of digital currency.
“We started because we wanted to learn something new about technology and, by the way, make some money,” Ishaan told CNBC.
Brothers living in Texas learned to mine, programming complex computers that compete to solve difficult puzzles in order to validate transactions.
“Digital currency mining is like gold or diamond mining,” Ishaan says. “Instead of using shovels, you mine with computers. Instead of finding a piece of gold or a diamond in the mine, you find a cryptocurrency.”
After watching videos on YouTube and searching the Internet, Ishaan turned his Alienware, a popular type of gaming computer, into an ether mining team in April.
His parents supported him: “We could have spent all summer playing video games, but instead we used our free time to learn about technology,” Ishaan says.
Ishaan and Aanya also set up their own mining company, Flifer Technologies, with the help of their father, Manish Raj, on April 30th.
In total, they expect to earn about $ 36,000 in September, based on the team they currently have, Raj says.
Ishaan and Aanya hope to continue to grow their business and balance it with school.
