SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose Monday by 185, with no more deaths and nearly 5,000 more vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The new numbers were the result of 2,519 more COVID-19 tests performed. According to the health department, the average continued number of positive cases per seven-day day is 398. This figure has remained between 396.3 and 406.3 new cases per day since it began in April.
The percentage of positive tests per day for this time period calculated using the “people over people” method is now 7.4% after Monday’s numbers update. The positive test rate per day for this time period calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3.7%.
There are now 122 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, according to state data. Of these, 61 were hospitalized in intensive care units.
A total of 1,708,002 doses of vaccine have been administered in the state, compared to 1,703,065 on Sunday.
The new figures indicate less than a 1% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the most people tested so far to detect COVID-19 in Utah, approximately 1.6% tested positive for COVID-19.
Monday’s total gives Utah 390,289 confirmed cases, with 15,770 total hospitalizations and 2,159 deaths from disease since March 2020.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox is due to offer an update on COVID-19 during his monthly press conference with PBS Utah at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Free COVID-19 test sites this week
Earlier Monday, the state health department announced several locations where free COVID-19 tests will be conducted in the state. The health department selects test sites based on higher positivity rates, fewer tests performed, untreated wastewater, and other coronavirus surveillance data.
This week, the department has announced locations in nine counties where tests will be conducted using TestUtah or the Utah Department of Health / Utah National Guard mobile testing team. People can pre-register at TestUtah sites here or at the Utah Department of Health / Utah National Guard here.
