2 out of 3 Wisconsin adults receive the COVID-19 vaccine

MADISON, Wisconsin (WBAY) – Wisconsin saw a seven-week “arm wrestling” increase for the seventh time in eight weeks to combat COVID-19. Now the state can say that 2 out of 3 adults have rolled up to protect themselves from COVID-19.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) reports that 66.7% of the Wisconsin adult population received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 63% of adults completed their vaccine series.

The state says 70% of Wisconsin women and 62.5% of men received at least one dose; 66.4% of women and 58.9% of men have completed vaccines.

Counting the entire population, 55.7% of Wisconsinites have received a dose of vaccine and 52.4% have finished. These percentages include the population under the age of 12 who cannot receive a vaccine.

A total of 3,243,595 Wisconsinites received at least one dose of vaccine, and 3,050,518 of them have completed their vaccines to date. A total of 57,240 doses of vaccine were distributed in the week of September 5, most in three months.

Cases, deaths and hospitalizations

There has been a net increase of 3,423 new cases since Friday’s report, including 665 new confirmed cases between Sunday and Monday morning. The state averaged 1,482 cases a day over the past 7 days. This variable average has dropped from 1,538 on Friday. DHS reports that 7.7% of all coronavirus tests returned positive on the day for the past 7 days, with no changes since Friday.

In addition, it shows no change, Wisconsin averages 13 deaths per day COVID-19. The death toll rose by 19 lives over the weekend to a total of 7,759 losses from coronavirus disease. Winnebago County reported 2 deaths, and Green Lake, Langlade and Outagamie counties each reported. (Neighboring Menominee County, Michigan, reported a death to the Michigan disease surveillance system.) At the end of this article, county-by-county cases and deaths are detailed.

As of Friday’s report, there were 168 people hospitalized by COVID-19. He Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) reports that 1,056 COVID-19 patients were in state hospitals on Monday, a net increase of 9 patients over the weekend. There are 327 in the ICU, an increase of 5. Hospitals in northeastern counties treat 105 patients for COVID-19, with 33 in intensive care; this does not mean any change in the number of ICUs, but an increase of 6 COVID-19 patients overall since Friday. Hospitals in the Fox Valley region treat 75, with 13 in the ICU; that is, 5 fewer patients in intensive care and 13 fewer patients overall since Friday. DHS publishes cumulative numbers; WHA numbers take into account affiliations and deaths with daily admissions.

By the end of this week, we expect DHS to report how many cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in August affected people who were completely vaccinated compared to those who had not completed their vaccines or who never received a vaccine. DHS says it plans to post these comparisons on the 15th of each month to move forward. In July, the rate was 369.2 cases, 18.2 hospitalizations and 1.1 deaths per 100,000 people who were not fully vaccinated and 125.4 cases, 4.9 hospitalizations and 0.1 deaths per 100,000 people who were not completely vaccinated. it took at least two weeks to finish the series vaccine.

A CDC study of 13 states, from April to mid-July, found that unvaccinated people were 4 1/2 times more likely to become infected, more than 10 times more hospitalized, and 11 times more likely to die compared to people vaccinated.

** Cases and deaths come from state COVID-19 reports, which may differ from local health department numbers. Wisconsin DHS reports cases from all health departments within a county, including tribal, municipal, and county health departments; county websites may not be. In addition, public health departments update their data at various times, while DHS freezes the numbers it receives every day at the same time to prepare the afternoon report.
