2 skiers trigger the Utah avalanche, 1 still missing

A pair of skiers triggered an avalanche near Park City, Utah, on Saturday, leaving one of them buried, authorities reported.

The search for the missing skier was suspended on Saturday evening and resumed early Sunday. according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the two skiers was able to get out of the snow and head to his friend to try to “save his life,” but was forced to leave because of the “extreme danger of avalanches in the area,” police said .

It is unclear whether the victim was still alive when the rescue was called off, according to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City.

The sheriff’s office refused to provide information about the victim until authorities contacted the person, the station said.
