SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose Monday by 257, with five more deaths reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates there are 16,738 active cases of the disease in Utah. There were 4,493 more vaccines as of Monday, the health department reported.
According to the health department, the average number of continuous positive cases per day for seven days is 636. The percentage of positive tests per day for the time period communicated with the “people on people” method is now 11%. . The positive seven-day test rate calculated using the “test over test” method is now 5.1%.
There are currently 214 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 89 in intensive care, according to state data. Currently, about 66% of all intensive care beds in Utah are occupied, including approximately 68% of the state’s 16 referral hospitals. Approximately 47% of all non-ICU hospital beds in the state are filled.
A total of 721,029 vaccines have been administered in the state, up from 716,536 on Sunday. Of these, 256,554 are second doses of the vaccine.
The new figures indicate an increase of 0.07% in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,208,924 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah to date, 16.8% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests conducted since the beginning of the pandemic is now 3,813,782, an increase of 6,517 since Sunday, according to state data. Of these, 3,133 were tests from people who had not been previously tested for COVID-19.
The five deaths reported Monday include:
- An Iron County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Kane County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- Two men from Salt Lake County who were between the ages of 65 and 84 and were hospitalized when they died
- A Salt Lake County man who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when he died
Monday’s total gives Utah 371,492 confirmed cases in total, with 14,724 total hospitalizations and 1,940 total deaths from the disease. According to the health department, a total of 352,814 cases of COVID-19 in Utah are considered recovered.
According to his office, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox will have to provide his weekly pandemic update at 11 a.m.
