Additional police officers patrolled the city streets with the aim of keeping road drivers intoxicated.
On Sunday night, 147 stops were made and eleven field sobriety tests were conducted. Three people were arrested for driving under the influence.
In past years, the police department may have controlled DUI checkpoints, but officers say the pandemic has disrupted their operations.
“We get in touch with many of these drivers during checks and we just want to try to limit exposure to officers and the public,” Fresno police sergeant said. Ritchie O’Dell.
If convicted, a DUI for first offense can carry a multitude of penalties, including three to five years probation and a fine of at least $ 390.
With restrictions on indoor dining due to the pandemic, many bars and breweries also had to modify their plan for game day.
At Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company, staff saw fewer people, but more beer sales.
Manager William Compton said the Super Bowl doesn’t usually attract large masses, but that discounts on delivery bring more benefits.
“With Super Bowl Sunday it seems more of a family issue. It’s more like a holiday for people and it’s something people like to celebrate at home,” Compton said.
Sergeant. O’Dell said with more people celebrating at home, the department’s patrol efforts were citywide.
