Three Arizona men were arrested Thursday in Goleta in connection with a robbery that occurred a few hours earlier at Carpentry, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were sent around 5:40 a.m. to the Chevron gas station on the Via Real and the Santa Monica Highway to Carpinteria after a woman reported that she had been robbed by her colleagues, said Officer Raquel Zick of sheriff’s public information.
The woman had reportedly been with three men in a vehicle when they robbed her, and left her behind and fled the scene, Zick said.
About three hours later, an alert citizen who had known of the theft informed the sheriff’s offices that the suspicious vehicle, which apparently had a fallen tire, was in a tire depot at 200 block of South Fairview Avenue, he said. Zick.
Deputies converged on the area and took three men into custody without incident.
One of the men was armed with a firearm, Zick added.
South Fairview Avenue was closed or shortly after MPs arrested the trio.
By mid-afternoon, the three men (whose names were not yet available) were still being questioned, Zick said, and had not been admitted to the Santa Barbara County jail.
No details were obtained about the charges they could face.
Zick congratulated the citizen who alerted deputies about the suspect’s whereabouts, noting that he was kept at a safe distance while transmitting information.
