MADISON, Wisconsin (WBAY) – The death toll from Wisconsin’s COVID-19 rose 33 lives according to a Tuesday report from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services at 7,549. This is the highest one-day increase in the death toll since late July. One of the victims of the virus was a person from Green Lake County, while the death toll in Sheboygan County was revised downwards. DHS says 21 of the 33 deaths just reported to the state occurred in the past 30 days and raised the state’s 7-day average to 8 deaths per day.
The number of Wisconsin coronavirus cases was also limited to an average of 1,369 cases per day over the past 7 days. A day ago, that rolling average was 1,290. Five days ago, there were 1,241. DHS says it has received 2,170 positive tests since its last report. Nearly 650,000 cases (649,636) have been identified since the virus was first confirmed in Wisconsin in February 2020.
The percentage of coronavirus tests that returned positive jumped half a percent, from 7.1% of all tests to 7.6% on Tuesday, according to the 7-day average. (The number of cases and deaths per county per county is listed later in this article.)
Then there is the hospital admission. The cumulative total increased by 286 patients since Monday. It is the first time there are more than 200 people admitted by COVID-19 in one day since June 1 and most in one day since November 10, 2020.

The WHA says 62 of these patients were in hospitals in the Northeast Health Region, including 24 in the ICU. Fox Valley hospitals are treating 62 patients, including 10 in intensive care.

Gov. Tony Evers announced an incentive program that offered $ 100 to people who get the first vaccine (or, if they get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, their only vaccine) by Labor Day. The governor admitted he was reluctant to make the offer, but was convinced of the success of the incentive program in Michigan. See our separate article for more information. Announcing the program in Oshkosh, the governor said that we are no longer fighting the COVID-19 virus, that we are fighting its delta variant and any other variant that evolves from the virus. Current vaccines have been shown to be effective against the delta variant, significantly reducing the risk of symptoms or death. health officials reported last week with a side-by-side comparison, although its viral load may be the same.
The Wisconsin National Guard and local health departments offer vaccination clinics in Winnebago, Outagamie and Calumet counties each week through Sept. 2. No prior appointment, no ID or insurance required. These clinics offer the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and some may have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which can always change depending on availability. Children 12 to 17 years old need to be with a parent or guardian, and are only eligible for the Pfizer vaccine; they will be eligible for their second dose in 3 weeks and will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks later.
