1. Corona virus

2. White House change

Election College voting today. The process is generally a civic class thought, but it will attract little attention as President Donald Trump and dozens of top GOP leaders and lawmakers have refused to acknowledge the election victory of President-elect Joe Biden. (The Trump-backed Texas case, which challenged the voting results in the other four states, was thrown out by the Supreme Court on Friday.) This is very rare, and will take desperate voters anywhere close to closing the brink of Biden victory. Still, some Trump supporters think the president actually won the election. One weekend the Stop the Steel protest rocked Washington, D.C., leading to violence and a handful of arrests.

3. Economy

The bipartisan congressional committee, which is seeking a $ 908 billion Govt-19 relief package, plans to split the bill into two. The larger plan will include small business loans, unemployment benefits and vaccine distribution. The smaller, higher polarity one will include state and local assistance and liability security. Despite the continuous delays, all parties agree that something needs to be done soon. This year, about 17% of the country’s restaurants – about 110,000 – have closed permanently, with US retailers announcing 8,400 closures. Dozens of recognized brands have declared bankruptcy, and states are forced to create their own economic relief as Congress wavers.

4. Brexit

The United Kingdom and the European Union agreed to extend yesterday’s self-imposed deadline to negotiate past, but they both warn that Brexit without a deal could become a reality. Leaders say the pages are still a long way off on a number of issues, including fishing rights, the UK’s ability to differentiate EU standards and the legal oversight of any agreement. This stalemate could mean that the UK will be left without a solid trading structure when the Brexit transition period ends at midnight on December 31. Such an outing would be catastrophic for the UK, but it would also affect the EU. Both parties are thinking of a Plan B instead. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he has instructed his cabinet to prepare for the failure of the talks, and the EU has announced plans to open its borders to commercial aircraft, trains and lorries.

5. Nigeria

Hundreds of students have gone missing after gunmen attacked a school in the Katsina state of Nigeria. Witnesses say the attackers raised students and loaded them into vehicles after shooting police who were guarding the school. A party police spokesman said 200 students had returned safely to school over the weekend, but it was “too soon” to find out how many students were still missing and whether they had been abducted. The school may have had between 700 and 1,200 students at the time of the attack, but some may have dropped out following an exam period before the attack began. A party leader said the army would visit students’ homes to determine how many more were missing.
