SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased Friday by 549, with five more deaths and 31,411 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
There are now an estimated 14,586 active cases of the disease in Utah, according to the health department. According to the health department, the average number of positive cases per day seven days a day is 543. The percentage of positive tests per day for the time period communicated with the “people on people” method is now 9.8 %. The positive seven-day test rate calculated using the “test over test” method is now 4.6%.
There are currently 203 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 85 in intensive care, according to state data. About 72% of all intensive care beds in Utah are occupied, including 74% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 reference hospitals. According to the health department, about 55% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied.
A total of 816,934 vaccines have been administered in the state, compared to 785,523 on Thursday. A total of 529,871 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, while 291,003 have been fully vaccinated, according to data from the health department. A total of 990,790 vaccines have been delivered in Utah.
The new figures indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,236,642 people tested so far to detect COVID-19 in Utah, 16.7% tested positive for the disease or illness. The number of tests conducted since the pandemic began is now 3,884,886, an increase of 16,934 since Thursday. Of these, 6,601 were tests of people who had not been tested for COVID-19, according to the health department.
The five deaths reported on Friday include:
- A Cache County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and resided in a long-term care center
- A woman from Cache County who was between 65 and 84 years old and resided in a long-term care center
- A Salt Lake County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Utah County woman who was between 65 and 84 years old and resided in a long-term care center
- A Weber County woman who was between 65 and 84 years old and resided in a long-term care center
One of the deaths reported on Friday occurred before Feb. 12, but was still being investigated by strong doctors, according to the health department.
Friday’s total gives Utah 373,868 confirmed cases, with 14,841 hospitalizations and 1,970 deaths from disease. A total of 357,312 cases of COVID-19 in Utah are considered recovered, according to data from the health department.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox provided an update to COVID-19 at a news conference Thursday.
