570 COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths, 26,098 vaccinations reported on Utah state anniversary

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose Saturday by 570, with five more deaths and 26,098 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The day marked the one-year anniversary that Utah declared a state of emergency for the coronavirus pandemic and the state’s first confirmed case.

According to the health department, the average number of positive cases per day seven days a day is 527. The percentage of positive tests per day for the time period communicated with the “people on people” method is now 9.5 %. The positive seven-day test rate calculated using the “test over test” method is now 4.6%.

There are currently 194 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 77 in intensive care, according to state data. About 71.5% of all intensive care beds in Utah are occupied, including 74.8% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 reference hospitals. According to the health department, about 54.2% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied.

A total of 843,032 vaccines have been administered in the state, up from 816,934 on Friday. A total of 546,814 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, while 304,168 have been fully vaccinated, according to data from the health department. A total of 1,005,715 vaccines have been delivered in Utah.

Of the 2,243,694 people tested so far to detect COVID-19 in Utah, 16.7% tested positive for the disease. The number of tests conducted since the pandemic began is now 3,903,480, an increase of 18,594 since Friday.

The five deaths reported on Saturday include:

  • A Salt Lake County woman over the age of 85 who was not hospitalized at the time of her death
  • A woman in Salt Lake County between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized at the time of her death
  • A Weber County man between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized at the time of his death
  • He resided in Salt Lake County between the ages of 25 and 44 and was hospitalized at the time of his death
  • A Uintah County woman between the ages of 45 and 64 and admitted to the hospital at the time of her death

Saturday’s totals give Utah 374,438 confirmed cases in total, with 14,867 total hospitalizations and 1,975 deaths from the disease. A total of 358,249 cases of COVID-19 in Utah are now considered recovered, according to health department data

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced at a news conference Thursday that eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine will be extended to Utahns 50 years and older, as well as residents of the state with more underlying diseases.
