SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose Wednesday by 590, with three more deaths and 34,472 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The health department estimates that there are now 8,552 active cases of the disease in Utah. According to the health department, the average number of positive cases per day seven days a day is 384. The percentage of positive tests per day for this time period calculated using the “people on people” method is now 6, 2%. The positive test rate per day for the time period calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3%.
There are currently 146 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 58 in intensive care, according to state data. About 61% of all hospital beds in intensive care units are occupied, with approximately 65% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 reference hospitals. Approximately 51% of all non-ICU hospital beds are occupied in the state, according to state data.

The three deaths reported on Wednesday were:
- A Davis County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- An Iron County woman who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to hospital when she died
- A Utah County woman who was between 25 and 44 years old and was hospitalized when she died
Wednesday’s total gives Utah 393,862 confirmed cases, with a total of 15,981 hospitalizations and 2,177 deaths from the disease. According to the Department of Health, an estimated 383,133 cases of COVID-19 are currently being recovered in Utah.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Gov. Deidre Henderson are scheduled to provide an update on the COVID-19 pandemic at its weekly press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday, according to the governor’s office. .
