595 hospitalized COVID-19 patients; SAWS says it lifted 80% of the boiling warning in San Antonio

SAINT ANTHONY – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the consequences of the winter weather in an information session Sunday night.

Mayor Nirenberg reported some data received on coronavirus cases in Bexar County. On Saturday, Nirenberg reported 77 cases of coronavirus and no new deaths. However, low case figures can be attributed to the lack of state data due to last week’s winter storm.

The mayor also reported that there are 595 patients hospitalized, 20 on Saturday less, 232 in the intensive care unit and 137 with ventilators.

There have been 82 hospital admissions in the last 24 hours, Nirenberg said.

CPS Energy

According to Mayor Nirenberg, all households except 14 have received energy.

For customers worried about their upcoming utility bill, Nirenberg said the energy company has suspended automatic payment for all customers at this time.

Customers do not need to call to pay their bill. However, if you have already made the payment by automatic payment, call CPS Energy at 210-353-2222.

San Antonio water system

San Antonio Water System CEO Robert Puente announced Sunday during the briefing that 100% of its surface area has water.

By six in the afternoon, Puente said more than 80 percent of the city is no longer under the warning of boiling water. This means that customers who are authorized to notice no longer have to boil water before consumption.

According to Puente, those still under the warning of boiling water are expected to be cleared on Monday.
