7.1 magnitude earthquake shakes the northeast coast of Japan the world

Tokyo – A magnitude 7.1 earthquake shook the northeastern coast of Japan on Saturday, shaking the cities of Fukushima, Miyagi and other areas, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported. The quake was felt in Tokyo, in the southwest.

Japanese public television NHK TV said the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant was still checking for any problems and there were no immediate reports of irregularities from other nuclear plants in the area.

The agency said the quake had its epicenter about 60 kilometers (37 miles) below the seabed. The same area was hit by a tsunami, earthquake and nuclear disaster in March 2011.
