7 injured after New York tandem bus veers off road, leaving front half hanging from overpass – NBC New York

Seven people were injured after a bus at the New York City Accordion veered off the road and half hung from a flyover.

A police spokesman said the driver of the BX-35 bus “was unable to navigate the roadway and veered off the road” near Cross Bronx Highway and University Avenue around 11 p.m. on Thursday. No other vehicles were involved in the incident or stopped.

Six of the injured were bus passengers and the other was the driver and were taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to police and MTA spokesman Tim Minton.

Minton said it is too early to speculate on the cause of the incident. He said the bus driver’s route begs left on the highway, but for whatever reason, the bus missed the turn.

Videos from the Citizen app show a massive police response to the scene and many people gathering to take photos and videos.

Delays are expected in the area until a crane arrives to pull the bus off the bridge.
