75-year-old woman hit, killed by vehicle in West Kensington: police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal pedestrian incident in West Kensington on Saturday.

The incident happened around seven in the afternoon on Allegheny Avenue, near B Street.

A 75-year-old woman crossing the street was hit by a grenade Honda Civic traveling west on Allegheny Avenue, officials say.

The driver was believed to be a Hispanic man who fled the scene.

Action News spoke to a man who said he was riding a Septa bus down Allegheny Avenue when the crash occurred, and the bus stopped abruptly.

“One car was trying to pass another and it hit the pedestrian and hit it, so hard it turned around,” David, who witnessed the incident, said. “Back in the air, the shoes came off and all. I was on the bus when that happened. The bus stopped and the driver called the police and everything.”

The woman, whose identity is unknown, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to officials.

A man believed to be the driver has been arrested because officials are still gathering evidence at this time.
