Nine nuns from a New York state convent have died of COVID-19-related causes in just over a month.
The nuns lived in the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Latham, according to the Albany Times Union.
“Four of the deaths associated with the congregation had been previously reported earlier this month by hospitals,” Albany County Health Commissioner Elizabeth Whalen said in a statement to the newspaper. “The other five were not reported to the Albany County health department for installation.”
According to its website, the convent is home to approximately 140 nuns.
On Dec. 11, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet said 22 of the sisters had tested positive for coronavirus, according to a note obtained by NBC affiliate WNYT.
In December, eight nuns from a Wisconsin convent died of complications from COVID-19 the same week; four of them dying the same day.
