Ionia, Michigan Michigan officials said on Tuesday at least 90 cases of the highly contagious variant COVID-19 first identified in the UK have been confirmed in a prison here. Officials from the Department of Health and Human Services said only five of the 95 tests administered did not yield positive results.
In addition, the results of 100 more tests at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility were still pending Tuesday night.
Of the 90 people who tested positive, minus two were imprisoned. The other two were staff members, officials said.
Trials began in prison after an employee was found to have the variant.
But officials noted that the number of positive COVIDA results began to decline once daily testing began.
Additional precautions were taken against COVID at the facility as soon as the variant was found there, officials added. Daily testing was one of the new steps.
