West Virginia chemical plant fire, explosion immediate warning to neighbors



Authorities said West Virginians were told to stay within two miles of a chemical plant in Belle after a fire and explosion Tuesday night. The Dream County Commission said the explosion at the Seymours plant occurred just after 10 p.m. The company that owns the plant later said it was controlling the fire at the site. Aaron Spencer injured two people, but details of the injuries were not released late Tuesday, Kanawa County Commission chairman Kent Carper told WSAZ, an NBC affiliate of Huntington. “One of the tenant companies at our site in Belle, West Virginia, caught fire. Site responders worked to control the fire,” Seymours said in an email. This sent questions to another company that did not send a voice message immediately. The aerial video posted on social media captured images of the fire burning. The shelter was in operation early Wednesday morning. Jim Justice tweeted that he had been explained and that he and his wife were praying for the safety of everyone involved. Joe Munch of T-West Virginia tweeted his concern. School closures were announced by the county on Wednesday. Comoros formed in 2015 as a spinoff from DuPont. The plant is located across the Kanava River in East Kanava County. Belle, population about 1,100, is located southeast of Charleston. The county commission said the shelter-location order covers Belle, as well as the Marmot, Chesapeake and Cellion communities.
