PHILADELPHIA – Eagles coach Doug Peterson has said he has not yet decided whether Jalan Hurts or Carson Vents will start Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
Appearing on 94.1 VIP on Monday, Peterson praised Hurts’ performance against the top defense of the New Orleans Saints at the start of his first career, which helped trigger a 24-21 Eagles victory, but he backed away from saying he would be under the Rookie center.
“I look [the Saints film]. I’m going to look at a lot of different things before I make that decision this week, “he said.
The expectation is that the player will get permission. Player and team sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that this would avoid Hurts’ work, injury or disastrous game for the rest of the season.
Hertz went 17 for 30 at 167 yards and went one touchdown against New Orleans 18 times for 106 yards, becoming the fifth Eagles quarterback to run 100 yards in the Super Bowl era, followed by Mike Wick, Donovan McNab, Randall Cunningham and Jack Conan. He took no sacks and turned the ball once.
“Looking back this morning, there were some good, good plays. He played well,” Peterson said. “He managed the team, he did everything we had to do for him. He played brilliantly, he played physically with the run.”
With this victory, the Eagles have lost four games and are 10 games behind division leading Washington football team.
