As vaccines began to take off in New York City and the domestic diet was halted again on Monday, Mayor Bill de Blasio warned that additional restrictions could come – including a return to a full strike.
“There is a possibility of a full shutdown, a full shutdown in the coming weeks, because we can not let this kind of momentum go,” De Blasio said last when asked about the government’s comments on CNN. Week, the state’s top executive said there could be a complete shutdown this winter.
“We are seeing a level of infection with the corona virus that we have not seen since May, and we need to stop that pace – otherwise our hospital system will be threatened,” De Blasio said.
“Is there this kind of disease now? We have to stop it. We have to stop it before there is more damage, more pain,” Hisoner told CNN. “We need to stop it to give the vaccine time to properly distribute.”
He made the remarks while announcing that there will be front-line staff at the city hospital hospital in Gotham receiving the first dose of the newly approved COVID-19 vaccine.
Authorities hope a major vaccination effort will put an end to the epidemic that has killed more than 24,000 people – but have warned that it could take months to produce enough vaccines to prevent the spread of the corona virus.
However, any decision on a full shutdown was eventually issued by the governor in the spring under the Cuomo Emergency Public Health Order, when there were disagreements with Hison over the initial imposition of corona virus controls.
Local governments, including City Hall, are working to enforce the governor’s rules, which have proven to be another frequent flashpoint between Cuomo and de Blasio.
