American Airlines flew its first corona virus vaccine on Sunday and joined United Airlines, saying executives are critical to the industry’s recovery in helping traffic levels.

The U.S. said Monday it had flown a Boeing 777 between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and its bases in Miami, and that the vaccines would then land “in American territory today in the Caribbean.” The carrier’s spokesman declined to release the target.

Last month U.S. operating compression aircraft to ensure that its network and supply chain could handle the temperature and other requirements for sending corona virus vaccines. The Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved Pfizer and Bioentech’s Govit-19 vaccine for emergency use.

United last month began flying a series of flights between Brussels and its Chicago hub to carry vaccines on its largest aircraft. Passenger airlines work with shipping companies such as FedEx and United Parcel Service to distribute the vaccines.
