Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azhar on Monday described the COVID-19 vaccine in the United States as “the light at the end of the tunnel” – and begged more people to be shot.
“Today is a historic day when we see the light at the end of the tunnel of this terrible epidemic and the number of human sufferings we have seen,” Azhar said. “Today,” he said on the show.
“If you are recommended to get it, you get it – oh, please get it.”
He added, “Protect yourself, protect those around you – but please, get vaccinated.”
The United States has recorded more than 16 million corona viruses and nearly 300,000 deaths, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
Azhar reiterated his hope that the United States would have managed at least 100 million views by the end of February. At the same time, he predicts that anyone can walk into the vaccine dispensary – just like those who are now susceptible to the flu.
While signaling the historic urgency of such a massive immunization program, Azhar said the coming months were a “call to action” to “act responsibly” during the “bridge-building period”.
“These vaccines have come to you – I want you to be there to get these vaccines,” he said.
“I want you to be there. I wish you a Merry Christmas and Holidays next year – I want everyone in your family to be there.
“So please be very careful for the next several weeks, be very careful,” he said.
