Walt Disney World stops putting digital masks on guests not hidden in photos

Several reports suggest that Walt Disney World Park will stop converting photos digitally to put masks on guests who have appeared.

Walt Disney World Today, a news agency centered on Disney-owned companies, shared a photo of a private Disney Park Facebook group earlier this month that will show guests a park ride. This post has caused some skepticism and confusion as to whether some of the guests’ masks are being digitized.

A Disney spokesman confirmed to The Washington Post that the park is testing the use of digital masks for those who do not wear masks properly or ride in the middle of the masks so they can buy more pictures. According to The Post, guests to the park are required to wear masks during rides, and if they do not wear a mask they will not be given a picture of themselves as mid-ride. But the park is said to have bent the rules briefly after some guests complained that speeding rides caused their masks to move or slip.

“In response to guest requests, we tested changing some ride photos,” Walt Disney World said in a recent report. “We don’t do this anymore. We expect guests to wear masks except when they are actively eating or drinking when they are stable.”

Walt Disney World announced in May that it would reopen its Orlando-based theme parks and hotels in July, despite an increase in COVID-19 cases in Florida. Park guidelines state that guests two years of age and older must wear face masks at all times.

COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Florida, with more than 1.1 million, including more than 19,000 deaths as of Dec. 14.
