Ghislaine Maxwell’s husband described her as a “wonderful, loving person” in a letter asking a federal judge to sign a $ 28.5 million bail package, according to recently released court documents.
“I have never witnessed anything like inappropriate with Ghislaine,” technology CEO Scott Borgerson wrote in a letter attached to the bail application. “On the contrary, the Ghislaine I know is a wonderful and loving person.”
Although Borgerson’s name is spelled out, it has been reported that she was her husband.
In a desperate bid to get Maxwell out of federal closure, Borgerson, 44, agreed to sign a $ 22.5 million bond that would represent the couple’s total net worth, according to the statement.
Seven of the British Socialist’s friends and family have stepped forward to sign other $ 5 million worth of bonds to help secure her exit to the home precinct with electronic control.
The bail application, which included more than a dozen letters of support, was filed Dec. 4 in Manhattan federal court and sealed Monday.
Following Maxwell’s arrest in July, U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan turned down the $ 5 million bail package, considering it a significant theft risk and its murky financial disclosures. At the time, Maxwell, 58, did not reveal her husband’s name.
In the three-page letter, Borgerson wrote that “a fierce media assault” prevented her from presenting herself as a signatory to her first bail application.
His idyllic life in a beachfront mansion in Manchester, by the sea, Massachusetts, was shattered after Epstein’s arrest and subsequent suicide detained while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges, he wrote. An explosion of intense media scrutiny soon followed.
“It’s hard to communicate in words the feeling of being harassed, spied on and trapped by a constant media intrusion 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” the divorced father of two wrote. Her children considered Maxwell her “representative mother” and were shocked and heartbroken when she was arrested, a family spokesman told the DailyMail.
Borgerson said he was aware of Maxwell’s previous relationship with Epstein, but had never met or communicated with the pedophile financier.
“I think Ghislaine had nothing to do with Epstein’s crimes,” he wrote in the letter, which was drafted liberally.
The bail application says Maxwell had a net worth of approximately $ 20.2 million in 2015. After the couple became naked, Maxwell “transferred most of his assets to a trust controlled by his spouse.” and to a person whose name was retained.
In 2019, all of the trust’s assets, which were then worth $ 22.5 million, were distributed to Borgerson, according to the request.
At the time of his arrest, he told the preventive services that his assets amounted to only $ 3.8 million, according to the motion.
The daughter of disgusted media titan Robert Maxwell is charged in a six-count indictment for recruiting and arranging girls and women to be abused by her and Epstein in the 1990s.
She has been locked up for the past five months at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where she has complained of dramatic weight loss and hair from a poor diet and crippling stress.
