On November 20, 1995, two years before his death, one Lady Di devastated by the pain of the separation of prince Carlos received the journalist of the BBC, Martin Bashir, at Kensington Palace, to whom he gave an extensive and candid interview for the program Panorama. Now, about 25 years after the phrase that remains in the collective memory: “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded”, referring to the extramarital affair she is still married to maintenance with Camilla Parker Bowles, it has been alleged that Bashir tricked Diana’s brother into making sure he appeared before the cameras.

In the last few hours it is said that I will know that a letter written in handwriting by Lady Di herself would exonerate Bashir from any guilt. According to the British press, this is a document that a member of the BBC staff has taken home as a souvenir and is now being contributed to the investigation. Such a letter could be key to knowing the truth about how the channel got the famous so-called “interview of the century.”
Although its contents have not yet been revealed, according to the Times, Diana praises Bashir and thanks his behavior before and after the interview, also clarifying that false documents are never shown to persuade her.
In the midst of the scandal, Prince William welcomed the start of an investigation into how Bashir earned his mother’s trust.

Both Bashir and the BBC itself are in serious trouble over the interview that rocked Buckingham Palace. The journalist is being accused of getting that scoop by believing in Diana that the secret service was listening to their private conversations and also for using bank statements – which turned out to be fake – to get the princess’ brother to help him close the interview.
He himself claimed that he agreed to the meeting between his sister and Bashir after the journalist used unethical tactics. “If I hadn’t seen those documents, I would never have introduced Bashir to my sister.” he wrote in a letter to the BBC.
