Desolate presentation by Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and Callum Smith

SAN ANTONIO – It was not by far the great and spectacular presentation of the boxers in a week of fighting Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, as he has been accustomed to since he debuted as a stellar boxer in Las Vegas in September 2012.

The mariachi was missing, the music destroying the eardrums or the hundred journalists waiting for a statement.

More importantly, it lacked the hundreds of fans who usually stand guard from an early age to watch the current great Mexican boxing idol in search. And to boo and press any rival who stands in front of him; in this case, Callum Smith.

‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Smith were on Tuesday afternoon at the base hotel the week before the fight they will hold in the legendary Alamodome on saturday.

The protocols requiring the pandemic to be lived worldwide only allow a few people to be there, including work teams from both audiences, albeit also in a limited way; members of the organization and a few journalists who have already passed the stage of isolation and testing of Coronavirus satisfactorily.

The Mexican boxer came out dressed in an elegant white sportswear and some lived with the colors of his homeland.

The Englishman came out black. Both with mouth covers to put on the championship belts Super Media which will be in play this weekend, the vacancy of the World Boxing Council and that of the Association (World Boxing), which belongs to Smith.

By Wednesday, Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 ko’s) and Smith (27-0, 19 ko’s), both 30 years old, will be part of a Media Day, which will include exclusive press attention; the next day he will give the last press conference. And on Friday they will have to go through the last requirement before being measured by blows: The scale.

‘Canelo’ will have no problem anyone to mark the division’s 168 pound limits. But according to various reports, Smith is still struggling to give him weight, as his great stature (6-4 feet) and stature is becoming increasingly complicated.
