The Houston area ICU nurse tests positive for COVID-19 for the second time

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – An ICU nurse is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19 for the second time.

Tanna Ingraham first spoke with ABC13 in June, when she was first diagnosed with the virus.

“I can honestly say I know what it’s like to be a health care provider and a patient,” Ingraham said in June.

Now months later, Ingraham was hit with COVID-19 again.

“This time it hit me a lot harder and a lot faster,” he said. “It feels like someone hit you with a baseball bat.”

The second time, Ingraham said she had a fever and needed to be treated by a nurse. He also added that the virus has hit him so badly that he does not remember spending a week in hospital.

“We had a patient who had it (COVID-19) three times. It’s common. This virus can mutate and move to a different type of strain,” Ingraham said.

Unfortunately, the hospital he works for, United Memorial Medical Center, is not expected to have any vaccines against COVID-19.

Although this is a smaller hospital in the Houston area, Ingraham said he should not exempt them from the vaccine.

“Because they completely nullify us … there can be no other front line than us right now,” he said. “We have some really sick patients and our hospital mainly treats COVID-19.”

For now, Ingraham continues to recover at home, but as soon as he gets better, he will take care of the patients again.
