Cuba began with all security measures, and in addition to the established protocols, the implementation of the tourism sector with the aim of recovering this pole in a gradual manner and boost the country’s economy.
This was stated by the Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz during his speech, this Tuesday, in the joint debate of the Commissions of Attention to Services and Agri-Food, which contains the presence, in addition, of Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice President of the Republic, and Mercedes López Acea, both members of the Party’s Political Bureau.
Marrero Cruz pointed out that, with this opening, they had to guarantee supply levels, where there was a decrease in domestic products, issues that “is not always due to lack of production, but due to lack of coordination or timely response, so that the work in this sense must be intended ”. It was noted that producers are not encouraged to sell to tourism.
The Prime Minister noted that, although we are not paving the way for the dollarization of the economy, we defend the Cuban peso, it is estimated that in the trade relationship between institutions will be transferred components in freely convertible currency (MLC), due to the quantity of imports in divisions that realizes the sector ».
As part of the report on the result of the verification of the substitution of imported food for tourism, deputies learned that the demands to meet the needs of the sector are greater than the supply of domestic production.
It was emphasized that, in several municipalities of the country, the productive potentialities are wasted, although reserves in the stability, the quality and presentation of products, assortments, prices and reduction of the expenses exist.
Among the deficiencies found in the report, the insufficiency of food products is manifested from the municipal initiative of local development, so it was insisted that the funding from this source has not had a real impact on the ‘agriculture and in the local food industry, with several mini-industries with structural problems.
On the other hand, there are positive examples that show that in the territories there is a link between economic actors, although this does not mean that all those involved act efficiently and obtain the results required by the country, to specify the goal of economic strategy: advocating for domestic production and banishing the import mentality.
Juan Carlos García Granda, Minister of Tourism, expressed that any additional element that would hinder management between a producer and the sector is a bureaucratic hurdle.
On the difficulties that exist, noting that it is identified as a hindrance, in some requirements, the issue of health licenses, although it is working in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Health, while ratifying the government’s will that local productions are chained to the sector.
Manuel Sobrino Martínez, Minister of the Food Industry, commented on the relationship between the two sectors and the identification of a work guide aimed at substituting imports, as well as the approval of a local development policy, which can contribute to the productive chain between non-agricultural cooperatives, mini-industries and the self-employed.
Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, head of Agriculture, stressed that the demands of tourism are already conceived from November to April 2021. A line of work to hire and supply the sector, in addition to establishing a system of daily control at the level of the tourist center against the existing demand.
He highlighted the systematic improvement of legal rules that allow the establishment of the marketing of fresh, processed agricultural products, flowers and frozen minced beef, among other products, and insisted that all must contain the relevant health certifications.
