The Secretary of the Department of Finance, Francisco Parés Alicea, informed all residents in Puerto Rico during the year 2019 or 2020, that the period to apply for the Economic Impact Payment approved by the federal government, to alleviate the effects of COVID-19, expires this Friday.
“We urge citizens who have not completed the application for CARES financial aid to do so as soon as possible. Pursuant to the provisions of the Distribution Plan, the links available in the Unified Internal Revenue System (SURI), related to the three phases of the $ 1,200 incentive, will be available until this Friday, December 18 at 11:59 at night. Both citizens who are not required to pay a return, and those who have to register in their bank account, who have not yet completed their application management, must do so before the end of the period, “said the official.
Since the approval of the Federal Treasury Distribution Plan on May 1, 2020, $ 2.7 trillion has been disbursed from the Economic Impact Payment to approximately 1.8 million families.
The secretary added that the Department has established several options to deal with different situations that have caused some citizens not yet to benefit from financial aid, mainly for reasons beyond the control of the Department, such as their place checks returns for United States Postal Service.
He also explained that those people who have not received the Economic Impact Payment during the year 2020 and meet the eligibility requirements established in the Internal Revenue Circular Letter No. 20-30 (available at www.hacienda.pr.gov), we may apply for a refundable credit to the Income Contribution Form for the 2020 tax year, with or without the obligation to render the Income Contribution Form.
“We know that there are other cases of citizens who have not yet received the aid due to discrepancies in the number or number that appears on their Social Security card. These people can send a message through their account in SURI or through the link entitled Assistance in SURI, which is on the main page of the platform (suri.hacienda.pr.gov), with a copy of your insurance card Social, to be able to corroborate its information with the Department ”, detailed the holder of Property.
In the case of citizens applying for Economic Impact aid by checking and it has not yet arrived, before making a claim you should check with the Department whether it has been returned by the Postal Service.
Therefore, we should send a message through your account to SURI or through the SURI Support link, available on the home page. The Department will send a confirmation via SURI and instructions on how to proceed.
