The New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square will be a celebration of perseverance, honoring essential workers and introducing Gloria Gaynor singing her anthem, “I Will Survive,” organizers said Tuesday.
As previously announced, the annual event will be virtual this year, with no public audience as in other years and aimed at viewers.
Singer Jennifer Lopez has been confirmed as the highlight of the musical performances that will be offered this year at the gala ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve ‘, one of the most traditional and desired events on American television, again presented by Ryan Seacrest, who took the riches of the event in 2004.
He also announced that singer and actor Billy Porter, star of the series ‘Pose’, and the legend Cyndi Lauper will complement the performances of the Puerto Rican singer with songs from the musical ‘Kinky Boots’, while including Jimmie Allen will bring his melodic country music songs to enjoy for lovers of this classic genre.
The Bronx diva, who a few days ago received the award for most iconic artist of the year at the awards organized by Billboard magazine to celebrate female talent, will perform a good cover of her most reliable hits for viewers , since the act as such will not congregate public.
Organizers said they would honor key workers as the “Heroes of 2020” and design a group of them as special guests, an annual tradition since the 1990s.
“This year, it is more appropriate to highlight the people who are tirelessly leading our nation in difficult times with unwavering strength, determination and balance,” said Tim Tompkins, president of Times Square Alliance.
