But George Clooney has revealed that the beard he grew for his role in The Midnight Sky was a major diversion for his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.

The 59-year-old actor said Thursday that Amal and his three-year-old daughter, Ella, were “happy to see him go” once filming was over.

“My daughter and my wife, perhaps the happiest day I can remember, was the day I shaved him,” he told the Australia Today show. “They were very happy to see it come out.”

However, he admitted that his son, Alexander, also three years old, was a fan of the beard and liked to “slip things into it”.

“My son grabbed me by the beard and pulled my head to talk to me, so he liked it,” George added.

George not only shaved for the role, but also underwent an impressive physical transformation before filming.

I spent the summer in Italy eating lentil soup and exercising three times a day. I lost about 25 pounds (11 pounds) because you wanted it [the character] to be quite emancipated, ”he said.
