Raheem Mostert loses the first session of week 15

The 49ers opened their practice week before their fight with the Dallas Cowboys losing a pair of their best offensive players. Runner Raheem Mostert and wide receiver Deebo Samuel lost the session.

Samuel’s absence is not a big surprise. His season is likely to have ended due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the first play of the 49ers ’14th week loss to Washington. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Samuel probably wouldn’t be back this year if it weren’t for the postseason.

Mostert’s absence is a bit troubling. He is dealing with an ankle problem after losing four games with a high ankle sprain. He only had nine gates in week 13 and his work on Sunday increased to 14 attempts. The good news is that Shanahan said this is typical for players recovering from high ankle sprains and that the team expects him to return at some point in the week.

“He’s not practicing today, but the picture basically makes us feel really good that he can get there by the end of the week,” Shanahan told reporters at a video conference on Wednesday. “So I think it hurt a little more than usual, but the image was a bit positive. Today we will take care of him and let him rest and we hope that tomorrow he will feel a little better ”.

George Kittle, who had the 21-day internship period open, is still being considered in the injured reserve and is therefore not required to appear on the injury report.
