The Economic and Social Council (ESC) issued a statement this morning stating that the signing of the Electricity Pact will take place at the beginning of next year.

After the call made by the President of the Republic, Mr. Luis Abinader Corona, in his speech on October 8, 2020, the Executive Committee and the Plenary of the Economic and Social Council expressed its decision to sign the Electricity Pact before the conclusion this year.
At the meeting held on October 26 at the CES, both the executive committee of the Economic and Social Council and the Government’s Electric Cabinet communicated the desire and willingness to have a National Pact for the Reform of the Electricity Sector in December 2020.
Based on the recognition and assessment of all the work carried out to obtain the already agreed document of the National Pact for the Reform of the Electricity Sector, the presidency of the Economic and Social Council accelerated the meetings with the Electric Cabinet with the aim of reviewing the aforementioned documentation, evaluating the designs that resulted from the working days to identify which ones are already resolved and joint positions with the Government.
At the same time, the presidency of the ESC held several meetings leading to dialogue with some leaders and representatives of the expanded social sector in order to consider the signing of the Electricity Pact already discussed and agreed.
The president of the CES, Rafael Toribio, tries to finalize some pending particularitities with the Electrical Cabinet in order to conclude the adequacy of the document agreed with some appearances that require a need and due revision and update.
Despite all the efforts made by the Economic and Social Council and the Government’s Electric Cabinet, the signing of the Electricity Pact will take shape at the beginning of next year, with the commitment to specify in a timely manner the date on which the signing of this important and courageous pact provided for by the National Development Strategy will take shape.
