Coming 2 America: Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall meet at first glance at the long-awaited comedy sequel
Thirty-two years have passed since Coming To America debuted in theaters.
And enthusiastic fans are finally seeing the upcoming sequel for the first time, in the new images posted by Amazon Studios on Thursday.
Coming 2 America arrives on March 5, 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.

The images show Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall with a still youthful look in the character of Prince Akeem and his friend Semmi, who returns.
Also seen are James Earl Jones, who reprises his role as Jaffe Joffer, and old Shari Headley as Lisa McDowell.
Also returning is RHOBH cast member Garcelle Beauvais, who plays Rose.

And in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Thursday, director Craig Brewer talked about how to meet fan expectations while doing the sequel.
“The conversations we had with Eddie and I were almost close, where does Coming To America stand in people’s hearts? Because it’s not just a movie, it’s a cultural stone for a lot of people.”
“You’ll get everyone’s opinions on what it is, but we needed to get to the essence of what people will bring to this film.”
“It’s such a nostalgic celebration, especially for people our age.”

The film is a sequel to the 1988 romantic comedy Coming to America, which was directed by John Landis and also starred Murphy, which went down in history.

The next film will follow the next crowned Prince Akeem and his trusted assistant Semmi when they return to New York City in search of a son, played by Jermaine Fowler, whom the prince was previously unaware of.
