Tegucigalpa, Honduras
The National Congress approved this Thursday a new loan in favor of the National Electric Power Company (ENEE) for a lot of 2.7 billion lampreys.
According to deputies, this new indebtedness is aimed at covering the financial commitments of the electricity state.
The credit will allow the country to have access to new sources of funding by complying with agreements with the International Monetary Fund, the bill says.

Against the loan
Jari Dixon, deputy for the Freedom and Refoundation Party (Lliure), questioned how it is possible that we will continue to start at the ENEE. People today are no longer to pay for so much light, they don’t even have to come “
For her part, Liberal Party lawmaker Karla Melari said she was against a new indebtedness arguing that she has heard multiple complaints from Hondurans who have been hit with excessive charges on their energy bill.
“We can not understand how it is possible that a vote will be intended to increase an increase in electricity, we have approved many increases, there is ignorance and the population is wanting more suffocated by these excessive charges,” he said.
Voices in favor
The coordinator of the intervention commission of the ENEE, Rolando Leán Bú, argued that the new loan is for the state power company to meet the acquired financial responsibilities.
“It is almost impossible to cope with the energy we buy, so we have been acquiring this number of commitments, today we have to go out and look to pay them,” said Bú in the virtual session of the National Congress.
Finally, he indicated that the ENEE has not made power cuts during the pandemic period to people who have outstanding debts, while ruling out that the credit approved today will result in an increase in the electricity tariff.
