Last month, Korean website The choice reported that Apple plans to launch new iPad Pro models with OLED screens in the second half of 2021, noting that Samsung and LG are already in the process of developing the screens.
However, after recent discussions with Apple vendors, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis, Thomas O’Malley, Tim Long and associates said an iPad with an OLED display does not appear to be up and running by 2021. In a new research note, shared with MacRumors, analysts said is unlikely to be released until 2022 at the earliest.
The time period offered by Barclays certainly sounds more reasonable, as many rumors suggest that Apple plans to launch at least one iPad Pro model with Mini-LED backlighting during the first half of 2021, and it would seem pretty quick for Apple to change technologies of display twice. the same year with the launch of the OLED models.
Apple already uses OLED screens for the iPhone X and newer models and for all Apple Watch models, with advantages over LCD screens, including higher brightness, improved contrast, higher energy efficiency, viewing angles wider and much more.
Apple last updated the iPad Pro in March, but it was a relatively minor upgrade, with new features such as a Bionic A12Z chip that is essentially an A12X chip with an additional GPU core enabled, an Ultra Wide camera, a LiDAR scanner and better microphone sound. Prior to that, the iPad Pro received a major redesign in October 2018, getting thinner bezels, Face ID, and a USB-C port instead of a Lightning connector.
Barclays analysts were the first to say that Apple planned to stop including a charger with iPhones. In the past, they also revealed that True Tone would come to the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, the removal of the headphone adapter with the iPhone XS and iPhone XR models and the removal of the 3D Touch in all iPhone 11 models.
