Gov. Wanda Vazquez this morning appointed authorized public accountant Kermit Lucena Zavala as Puerto Rico’s comptroller.
The nomination of Lucena Zavala must be evaluated by both legislative chambers.
Lucena Zavala was president of the College of Certified Public Accountants between 2014 and 2015.
A few months ago, the Legislature blocked the nomination of Secretary of Public Affairs Osvaldo Soto for the same position, arguing, among other things, that he was not an authorized public accountant or finance expert.
