Jack Coan of Wisconsin QB enters the transfer portal

MADISON, Russia. – Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan has entered the transfer portal after a season of injuries in which he did not play.

Coan made 18 2018-19 outings and helped the badgers reach the Rose Bowl in 2019, but injured his right foot in preseason practice and was operated on. Although he dressed for the last three Wisconsin games, the 6-foot-three senior from Sayville, New York, didn’t play a single game.

Graham Mertz, a freshman in the red jersey, started each of the six games Wisconsin has played (3-3) and completed 60.8% of his passes for 1,108 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions. When Mertz was injured Saturday in a 20-17 overtime win over Minnesota, sophomore Chase Wolf came in and went 4 of 5 for 15 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Coan had a 12-6 record as a starter, including an 8-3 record in the Big Ten games.

He completed 68% of his passes for 3,278 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Coan had a school record of 236 completions as he threw 2,727 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2019.
