25 U.S. states want to “prioritize” non-white vaccines

Twenty-five out of 50 states have “committed to focusing on racial and ethnic communities” in deciding who should receive the coronavirus vaccine first.

“According to our analysis, 25 states have committed to focusing on racial and ethnic communities as they decided which groups should be prioritized to receive a dose of coronavirus vaccine,” Jon Levine tweeted.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has called on all U.S. states to examine potential critical and vulnerable groups in order to prioritize them for the new coronavirus vaccine, which has begun to be sent to the United States. United States as of December 13 and has mentioned ethnicity and minority communities as good candidates for early vaccine delivery.

Twelve of the 25 states that have specifically targeted communities of color to receive the vaccine on a priority basis have come to work with health companies based in areas with large minority populations.

For example, Michigan has stated that minority status and mother tongue could be factors that determine how quickly the vaccine can be accessed.

In New Mexico, authorities have stated that they plan to focus on the state’s Native American population.

In North Carolina, officials “have specifically cited historically marginalized populations as an early-stage critical population group.”

And in Oregon, the health department said it would make sure “black, indigenous, Latino / Pacific / Latino, Pacific Islander and tribal communities had equitable access to vaccination.” Rachael Banks, the head of the department, had already announced that the vaccines “would be especially focused on our communities of color that have seen a disproportionately unfair impact since COVID-19.”
