The prominent Honduran businessman and politician Gilberto Goldstein Rubisnstein died at the age of 83 in a hospital in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, they confirmed their relatives in the last hours.
Gilberto Goldstein was one of the most prominent businessmen in Honduras, a man of solidarity and entrepreneurship, as well as a notable banker and industrialist. He was also an excellent business leader in various trade union organizations, leaving a great legacy in the country.
His death caused commotion between different sectors of country, among them, the National Party and the Honduran Council of the Private Company (COHEP).
He will be buried in San Pedro Sula General Cemetery, where the remains of his parents and son Mark are found.
As it became known, Goldstein fought for about 12 years against Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The businessman was born on April 15, 1937 in the city of San Pedro Sula, his parents were Boris Goldstein and Doña Gustava Rubinstein, both natives of Russia. He had been married to Lady Alice Goldstein since 1958 and together they fathered three children: Mark Lori and Deanna.
Goldstein Rubisnstein studied at the Kindergarden Mondragón and then at the José Cecilio de la Vall high school, both in San Pedro Sula. He also studied academically at Augusta Military Academy in Virginia, USA, and later studied Finance at the University of Pennsylvania at Wharton School.
He also stood out during his tenure in the Legislature, where he was a deputy in the period 1986-1990, served as chairman of the Central Committee of the National Party and former presidential candidate in 2005 through the movement “For a better alternative (Puma) “.
He was also president of the Olimpia football team and the late Federal, of the Honduran first division of football. He was also Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic from 1990 to 1994 and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Atlàntida.
He is the younger brother of journalist Jacobo Goldstein, who resides in South Florida, after covering the White House for several decades. To its history are added a list of awards, which includes the decoration of the Grand Cross Golden Plate, awarded by the National Congress.
