The free New Year’s Eve trip is just a holiday setting the agency has announced for the coming weeks. On four different days, all Metra lines (except the Heritage Corridor) will adjust their schedules to add early afternoon departures to help travelers get out of town on vacation.
According to the agency, trains will be added on December 23, 24, 30 and 31.
Holiday passes will also be available on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, according to the agency. The December 24-25 pass will cost $ 10 and allow unlimited travel on all Metra lines. On Jan. 1, season tickets will cost $ 5 and allow unlimited travel.
Finally, the Metra family fares will be in effect from December 21 to January 5, allowing up to three children up to 11 years of age or younger to travel for free with an adult paying the fare.
